Q - What is worse than an ear infection?
A - 4 in 7 months.

Q - And whats worse than that?
A - When the oral antibiotics don't clear them up anymore, they just make you sick and lose your appetite.

Q - And worse than that?
A - A shot of antibiotics.

Q - And worse than that?
A - Three shots.

Q - And worse, but maybe better?
A - Likely getting ear tubes.

Q - Change of subject, sort of. How do you know its a really bad cold/flu season?
A - When the drug store is out of/almost out of every variety of the Quil (and similar things), Airborn, nasal spray, and tissues with lotion.

Yeah so, after puking up the drugs a few times, and still playin grab the ear, we brought her back in tonight (I am so sick of being puked on). Ear is still pussy, drugs don't do a darn thing but make her sick (which seriously, on top of iron and GERD is no fun), so shot got a shot, goes back for two more, and we will most likely get a referral for SURGERY. My baby might get cut! (but oh to give up the ear infections....)

Oh, and one other thing... I thought breastfeeding was suposed to mean no ear infections. I was robbed! ;)

Pre Preg Jeans and other fun stuff

Sunday, 24 February 2008

Since the jeans I bought after having the Sprout have gotten ummm... really loose is an understatement, I decided to try on some stuff from pre preg. You know, open that drawer. After three tries, I found one that fits, well. I've changed shape, so I didn't expect everything to fit, and there are at least two different sizes in there (pre preg and pre fat ass). Who cares how many pairs it took, they fit! And they are way more comfy, and I don't have to keep trying to pull up my pants all day long.

I weighed myself too, within three pounds, which is just a few glasses of water, right?

Yeah, that whole tummy off the floor 60% of the time. That is a thing of the past. All it took was another ear infection (yeah, fuck would be the right response to that), and a few days of serious napping.

Well, tilt your head left. (I keep forgetting you can't just rotate video)

Tilt your head left from Kale on Vimeo.
There is my girl. Crawling her darndest for Puffs. (and later dog toys, no I was not playing fetch with my child... just Go, no fetch) She would NOT go to bed when she was suposed to, so we were trying to do the equivalent of running laps around the block to wear her out. It worked, sort of.

Babyproofable

Tuesday, 19 February 2008

Yeah, good thing the house is small, because I'm pretty sure we couldn't baby proof it if we tried. Every room has some climable, toppleable thing in it. Even her room is full of hazards, from her changing table to the glider.
To really drive it home, she has become bored with simply sitting on the couch and playing with toys while we work/watch TV/read. I've had to take my book/knitting into her room and sit in/guard the glider while she tried to find every spec of lint on the floor. (good to start cleaning habbits early)
The dog is taking it as well as can be expected. Now that she is crawling with her belly off the floor (at least 60% of the time and oh yeah, and pulling up on everything), the dog isn't sure if she should play, or run for her life. Sprout almost tried to chase the dog, and I think if she hadn't just been outside, she would have shit her pants. (the dog, Sprout does that all the time) It was a priceless canine expression of sheer terror.

If you want to see my terror, see the Flickr pictures...

Movin' and Groovin'

Monday, 11 February 2008

Since the Sprout is moving more and more all the time, we took advantage of the weekend to install some better gates. No more cheap plastic ones rested against doors, there soley to keep the dog out/in. In addition to the nifty top of the stairs gate we had already installed, we have one at the bottom of the stairs going up to the second floor, and one to the entrance to her room.

In a great bit of irony, she nose dived off the couch while we were working on the baby proofing.

I may need the worst mother of the year award, since I was right there not more than a few feet from her when it happened.

In other good news, she's back up to pre-sick weight, and is chowing down every chance she gets. In fact, today, she tried to take a bite of my nipple. Little canibal.

Gush...

Thursday, 7 February 2008

Forgive the momness of this.

I saw her scoot! For a stinkin' puff! Ajd got her to do it before I got home, after he saw her lustily eyeing his trailmix. He put out three puffs, she scooted on her tummy. (commando crawl like) And then she did it for me, ate her puff, and scooted the rest of the way too me. She was cranky about doing it, but I'm sure when she figures out her new power, there will be less cranking and more gettin' in trouble.

There's no stopping her now...

Enough of the politics bullshit, lets get back to the kid stuff.

The Sprout is, I can safely say, other than a stuffy nose (welcome to the family), recovered. (oh yeah, there is that iron problem, but more on that later) She's eating good, sleeping good, and well, movin'.

I used to be able to set her down and maybe she would lean over to get a toy. If we were in her room, she'd scoot around and go for stuff but its only like a three foot square area. This morning, I sat her down at daycare while I put her bottles away, and she scooted off to play with something next to the mat. On her sheets at daycare, they say she scooted from the mat, to the door. Thats like 5 feet! Thats the open space in most of our rooms! Time to go get better gates.

In addition to the scooting, we're having an adventure with the iron suplements. Being a um... very regular person, I'm not used to having to deal with what to do if you're not so regular. So, we started feeding her prunes (pureed with other stuff). Apparently, she doesn't need them every day, in addition to the rest of her strictly fruit diet, because we had the opposite problem yesterday. Since we're on the fruit and iron diet (Vit. C helps with absorption) for the next month, we're going to have to figure out how to keep her... consistant, but not too consistant.

Caucussing - Part Two

Tuesday, 5 February 2008

Yeah, so, never seen turnout like this before.

And my dear darling Dems, they lack organization skills, paper, and a sharpie.

Me to guy I know from the bus: yeah, you guys need better organization. And signs.

Him: You know how many people usually show up for this. 40.

*yeah, there were like two hundred there, and the line was out the door*

They were expecting to not even START the actual caucus until 8. Since I had to feed the Sprout, I left. I would have almost liked to have stayed and nominated myself to help be party leadership, because I know to bring paper and sharpies, but you that would just be living up to my parents expectations.

I'm still a little bitchy about the whole organization/preparedness thing. Here is why. Party brass must have their heads up their ass, because how could you not know how popular this election is going to be, and how well the cantidates (one in particular, hello he filled T*rget Center) had done to get people passionate about things for the first time in a long time. Not to mention, high minority neighborhood, and they have more at stake than ever before and really feel that the process has something for them. I mean really, who doesn't bring paper, sharpies, and I forgot the last thing, tape, to any major people event.

I'm almost tempted to go back and run for something on a platform of paper, tape and goddamn sharpies.
