- Sprout said her first recognizable word/sylable... DaDa. Daycare says they heard a mama first, but so far all we've heard is Da's. I also heard some Ga's and La's. I'm tickled by all of it, but still looking for a Ma somewhere in there.

- Last week she puked every time we fed her solids (2 times of an hour+ of it). We went to the Dr. on monday because we're kinda freaked out, and she thinks we need to split her prevacid dose and feed her at a different time. We're hoping this is it and she is not allergic to a. squash b. oatmeal c. gluton, because she had been eating the squash oatmeal combo just fine and while I can cut out squash, oatmeal/gluton could take some work. Next test is this weekend. Cross your fingers people... we could be in for a bumpy ride.

- The best lines in the Shr&k holiday tv show were given to Puss in Boots. Specifically seeing the children and saying "I will assume the position". Nearly lost it over that one. I miss owning a cat.

- If you look at our holiday photos you will see lots of drool. Its hard to prevent, especially when the stinker now has two (2!!) teeth. Both bottom. No idea what happened with the top one I thought I felt, maybe another cyst. If you look hard at the open mouth photos, you will see the one thats been there for a couple of weeks already.

- Holiday cards are done. Sprout is cute, Boof! in a parka is just as cute.

- I'm within 10 pounds of my pre pregnancy weight. I've been close enough for a bit I've been saying I'm about 10 pounds away, but I'm acutally there now. I'm of course 80-100 pounds away from where the AMA thinks I should be, but we'll take the battles one at a time.

Productivity

Ok, Blogger isn't letting me upload, so see the Flickr stuff.

Two aprons for Atila, and stockings for the fam. I had enough leftover oilcloth that I'm going to make a bib or two for Sprout of it. I also think I'll make some gift bags or zippered bags out of the leftover silk fabric from the stockings.

Bias Tape

Tuesday, 20 November 2007

When I was a kid, I would steal the bias tape from my mom's sewing stuff and play with it. I would dream of how one day I would have a project that required it.

I take it back. I just made an adorable washable crafty apron thingy for Atila out of this, and I'm done with bias tape. I'm hoping I get over it, since its a really cool apron and it comes in diferent kid sizes and it would be really cool to have more of them...

7 Things.

Saturday, 17 November 2007

The Dude tagged me. I have no one left to tag, so this game ends here unfortunately.

1. If I won the lottery, I'd go back to school for a sociology degree and maybe get my masters in public health. There are tons of things I would like to do studies on. Like why breastfeeding rates are so low, the effects of breastfeeding on conditions like autism, and why women make the choices they do about breastfeeding (and not for judgemental reasons either, I'm seriously curious about the why, and no one talks about it). I'd also start a foundation and help with public and women's health issues and advocate for better support for working families.

2. We found out recently that a friend of ours is dealing with unknown fertility issues. Came as a real shock because they had up until when they started trying two years ago not wanted kids. They have a blog, and I've been keeping up. It also links to all kinds of other infertility blogs. I've developed an odd fascination with all of them, and I feel strangely guilty because it was so easy for us.

3. I kind of want to have the Sprout baptized, and not because I'm into the whole Christian thing, but because I'm superstitious. Is that odd?

4. The sprout doesn't roll over. She's done it, but she doesn't seem to feel the need to continue to do it. I'm sort of worried about that.

5. I think I'd like to have a part time job instead of the one I have. Or do my current job part time. I really love working and I don't think that I could do mom full time because it wouldn't be good for my depression, but I'd like to be around more than I already am.

6. Because of our issues with our parents, and what I see my friends go through, I really want to be a good mom. And not just make sure she turns out to be a good person, but I want her to like me when she's 30. I know that just because you're some one's parent its not a guarantee that they have to like you and talk to you when they're grown up. I want to make sure that I can be a good parent, and she'll still want to be my friend. The part of this you don't know. I'm seriously considering cutting ties to my dad.

7. I just woke up from a two hour nap with the Sprout and the Boof! It was delicious.

Locusts?

The Sprout has pink eye (infestation at daycare), ajd is home with her, but pukin', and work is nuts.

Happy Hump Day!

Content, yet sensitive.

Monday, 12 November 2007

On the nifty little "this is what your kid did today" sheet we get from daycare, there is a little box for your kids general mood. Top is "cheerful", bottom is "sensitive". Today Sprout got "content" and "sensitive". Apparently while she ate, she cried during eating. She's still not back to eating full amounts (and I'm having to pump to keep from being in discomfort), so I wasn't entirely surprised. Given both the stomach bug and the tooth. I wasn't expecting it to be that bad though. However... I think I know why it was that bad. While checking on the progress of the bottom tooth, I discovered the TOP tooth. Also breaking through. It would be on the opposite side from the bottom tooth. That's gonna look interesting in her Christmas photos.
I'm honestly so used to seeing her old lady toothless grin that I don't know what she'll be like with teeth. Kinda freaked out, especially with the odd order they're coming in in.

Toof!

Ok, so we had a false start on the whole tooth thing, that turned out to be some little cysts on her gums. However, this one is real, and sharp. Sprout has her first tooth. She looks more and more like a little girl every day. Honestly, it kind of freaks me out how much she's grown. Tomorrow, 7 months old.
As you can see, she's recovered from the flu thing.

Sprout had her first ER visit today. After sleeping from 4:45 yesterday afternoon until this morning, and projectile vomiting in the middle of the night and immediately after I tried to feed her this morning, our Ped reccomended we go into the ER to make sure she wasn't too dehydrated. (this was all before office hours) She was barely able to stay awake, hadn't had a wet diaper since last night, and after pukin' would get dry heaves, so we knew it wasn't just a little spit up.

We thought it might have been her reflux, or some bug, and on my way out of the ER at CHC we found out where she got it from. Turns out another little girl from her room at daycare had been having issues with the other end Wednesday, and then threw up at daycare yesterday and was waiting to be seen herself. Hrm... Since she really only puked, I think maybe her being breastfed kept the illness more in check. At least thats what I'm going to tell everyone.

They checked her urine, and rechecked her temp, and made sure she could keep down pedialyte (though she seriously hated the stuff), and then sent us home. We were able to get some of the unflavored stuff in her at home, and she's eating fine now, though she slept all day.

Her timing is about as good as Pumpkin's, since I was going to do holiday photos this weekend. I'm hoping the dark circles go away enough that I still can.

Raspberries, squash and forward progress.

Monday, 5 November 2007

Third time is a charm for food. The Sprout has started up the solids again. Oatmeal is better than rice, as far as she's concerned. Squash is better than bananas or apples. We're trying something green next. I made another batch of homemade squash and made enough that the ice cube trays were not enough. I froze the rest in a mini muffin tin. We'll see how that works out. I like making food for her, and even if I buy organic, its still cheaper than the store bought stuff. Only issue is availibility of some things.
She discovered her ability to do raspberries a couple of months ago, but she's really perfected it recently. We go Ma Ma or Da Da to her, she goes tthhbtt! Yesterday, I got a face full of squash when she did it while eating. I think she's doing it for laughs now.
Sunday we moved the coffee table so we could hang on the floor in the living room and have fun with tummy time and fending off the dog. So far she's turned in circles on her tummy, but yesterday she got up on all fours and started to push off with one knee. Not really crawling, but if its like football, forward progress counts right?
Time to get serious about childproofing.

A big Thank You!

Thursday, 1 November 2007

As I was cleaning the umteenth blowout of bright yellow baby poop out of one of my favorite Sprout outfits, I realized I really should give a huge thank you to Syl. Without her advice about Dreft Baby Stain Remover and Oxyclean, it would either be impossible, or even more time consuming to clean the crap out. (I mean it, literally baby crap)
Today's fun one was caused by an explosive little number while sitting in her highchair after our third attempt at solids (previous two proved she wasn't ready). I was cooking dinner and looked over to see something yellow green on the foot rest below her dangling feet (she was sitting playing with a silicon spatula while I finished our dinner). Funny I thought, I fed her oatmeal and squash. Squash isn't green. (for the record, oatmeal has gone over way better than rice cereal). Upon closer inspection, she had pooped so furiously that it was dripping down her leg... Onto her shoes... and her socks, and lining her very cute pants.

So, thanks Syl, for the advice on this and so many other things. I have yet to have to give up on anything, and I've made numerous cute things return to the brightest of whites. It was especially useful for the month that she pooped on my favorite white with hot pink flowered onesie of hers every time she wore it (kid you not).
