Pregnant bowling.

Can you bowl pregnant? I'm curious. I can lift 10 pounds, since I lift PC's, but is it reccomended to bowl pregnant?

I bring this up only because of pusher.

I learned this morning that there is a reason I now have two ipods, and I need to use them. I ride the bus with morons. They have small minds that can only process one thought at a time. Like oposing a smoking ban because the only person you harm when you smoke is yourself. Huh?! Nevermind its proven that second hand smoke is just as bad (if not worse) and that is costs more in health costs that in turn get passed on to non smokers like me who pay taxes. They also think that there should be no laws that are made to protect you from yourself. Like seat belts (see case for health costs above, that also applies to injuries suffered by the uninsured who who don't wear seat belts), and hitting kids. That last one is the one that made me shut off and think nothing but bad thoughts about such people. I am thankful that my brain has enough space to realize that its not as simple as small minded man tries to make it seem. Maybe people aren't considerate or aware of how their actions impact others because our education system is under funded. And you can't always blame the parents. They had the same crummy education, so how can they be expected to know better. So maybe the solution isn't a law about not smoking, or seatbelt use, or spanking, but maybe its about less tax breaks for oil companies so we can pay teachers more. I make computers work, and I didn't go to school for it. However teachers make way less than I do, and they actually went to school for it. What they do means more to me than anything I could ever do. Really, a well trained monkey could do what I could do.

Ok, I rant enough. I will raise a daughter who knows how to be considerate, and think of others. And while some people call it common sense, like everyone should just know it, I will teach it to her, because I know that not everything is just there, and you can't spank it into them. So called "dicipline" does not teach respect or compassion. It teaches that hitting is OK.

And finally, a happy thought. As it gets closer to baby arrival, I keep thinking of fun things I could put her in. Like this. Thats it, time to get the room clean so I can start putting cute stuff in it.

When you were a baby, you kicked the bejezus out of me.

After not feeling the baby when everyone else seemed to think I should be, she's been making her presence known quite regularly. Yesterday, while already feeling a bit queezy, she kicked me enough I thought I was gonna hurl. Good news is that ajd finally felt her kicking, and saw how she makes me look like I'm posessed. Bad news is, it still feels freaky enough that I'm not sure if I should be enjoying it, or having more alien baby dreams.

Room stuff is still slow, though I have managed to finish stuff intended for everyone else's kids just in time for my own. Puppy has tried to eat most of it. We're having some serious issues with her realizing that not everything belongs to her. Its been interesting trying to figure out what she'll do when sprout actually shows up. Good news is she can tell its not her's a lot better. She'll drop stuff instead of running and hiding with it. We're starting to practice those commands again too, drop, leave it, wait, all in vain of course. She is a terrier.

Friday.

This weekend is a holiday for me. So i'm looking forward to having three days to goof off, and maybe get some work done on the baby room. Its not going as fast as I would like, but I would like to think that I'm doing it right so that I actually can sort through things and make decisions. I just want to do it with enough time so that I'm not stuck just throwing stuff in boxes only to forget about them for years. I see more Target trips in my future this weekend, since I think I should get more totes. I also realized I need to go through the basement and get rid of more stuff down there to make room for the crafty stuff.

Aside from that, I feel huge. It doesn't help I saw my weight at my last appt. I know I'm going for normal, but when you're already overweight, it doesn't help. The numbers are scary, and I think I'll try to not look at future appts. I have one in four weeks, and then they start up every two weeks. Its getting a lot more real. And scary. Epsecially because I get the distinct impression that there are some in my life that think I'm not going to be a good mom. I'm going against a lot of how I was raised, and I know that isn't sitting well with everyone. I know I'm going more mainstream, and I'm pretty comfortable with it, I just wish everyone could be ok with my decisions.

Considering this is something I knew I wanted in my life, I'm amazed at how much there is that I didn't know. And how wierd it all is. Sorry, but no guy is going to ever know what it feels like to be kicked from the INSIDE. It is by far the most bizzare thing yet. And she can kick. Or something. She's going to town in there regularly. Though there are still days when I worry that she's ok, and I try to eat stuff that I think will wake her up. So far, spicy has no effect. Caffine does a bit, and so does sugar.

Hrm, other things. Annoying things about being pregnant:

People who ask you how you feel, and then seem to undercut what you say by telling you how unoriginal you are. Nevermind that its the first time you've ever had someone do flamenco on your bladder.

People touching my tummy. I was fat before I got pregnant, and that nice protective fat layer is still there, so you're not touching baby, you're feeling my fat. Would you like it if I felt your fat?
(Side note, some people can touch, but they ask first)

Working in a field where there are very few pregnant women, ever. I think people would understand an admin assistant who had limits because of being pregnant, but when you introduce yourself as the support person for a floor, and then let them know you won't be able to do some lifting because you're pregnant, and they look at you like you just grew another head... its weird. "Hi, I'm a computer geek, I get paid to be one, but I'm also going to be a mom in three and a half months. It does happen, you know. Geeks have sex too. "

Beginnings.

So, new job means a different way of my time being used, and something I tried to do before there was a name and cool interfaces for it. I just can't bring myself to computer use at home, so I guess I'll steal company time and do it there. No telling. I keep feeling like I'm losing touch with everyone, and everyone it seems has blogs, so I'm getting on the bandwagon. My life is changing in all kinds of fun and interesting ways, and maybe it will be a way to get that whole "now that I'm a mom, I have to talk about it" stuff out of the way, or maybe just a way to feel like I'm still a geek, even though it feels like that may be less of my identity soon. I really hope that it isn't. I like being a geek, and I like my career getting back to where I like it, and I'm not sure how mom figures in to all of that. I don't want to give up career, but I don't want to be a mom who cares more about job than kid. Ah, balance. Thank you universe for that tinge of Libra in me.
